Non-Law Students

Exposure to the wider world—its histories, cultures, challenges, and resilience—shapes
how students understand leadership, faith, and responsibility. When students step
beyond familiar contexts and engage global communities firsthand, learning becomes
deeply personal. Perspective broadens, empathy deepens, and a clearer sense of purpose
begins to take root.
Opportunities for Non-Law Students

Classes
Study human trafficking, human rights, and the rule of law in Institute-sponsored courses taught by leaders in global justice. These classes bridge theory and practice, equipping students to engage complex challenges with clarity and purpose.

Events
Throughout the year, we host events that bring the work of global justice to campus. Through lectures, trainings, and gatherings, students hear directly from leaders in the field, engage pressing issues, and become part of a thoughtful community committed to justice.
SURJ Program Highlight

In 2025, the Sudreau Uganda Rwanda Justice Program gave students the opportunity to
spend over four weeks in Rwanda and Uganda, stepping into communities shaped by resilience
and renewal. The program explored the history and legacy of the Rwandan genocide while
offering opportunities to learn directly from local leaders, educators, and students.
In Uganda, participants visited schools, engaged in conversations about faith and
leadership, and observed justice initiatives at work, gaining insight into how justice
systems take shape in real-world contexts.
"The SURJ Program taught me that justice is not a courtroom outcome but a posture of the heart; one that listens before it speaks, restores before it reacts, and refuses to give up on the humanity of the person standing in front of you."
Julie Joy Oliveira

Living in a new cultural context shifts perspective in ways that are hard to anticipate. Through daily life, shared experiences, and honest conversations, students begin to see the world more broadly and think more deeply about their role within it. SURJ cultivates global awareness, spiritual maturity, and servant leadership in ways that cannot be replicated in a classroom alone.

Events
Throughout the academic year, students can continue exploring global justice through
undergraduate events hosted on the Malibu campus and by participating in our affiliated
justice club. These gatherings provide space for learning, community, and leadership
development—allowing students to remain engaged with the mission of justice throughout
their time at Pepperdine.
